I´ve been busy in the craft room (which is anywhere I can find a comfortable place) this week. I enjoy making pretty things that I can whip up quickly, as I like to see the results of my labor in short order.
Finding inspiration for making pin cushions has been my latest venture. There are so many cute ideas for these little gems, but I am having some difficulties in finding fabric that would be suitable, and that I particularly like. Oooohhhh, I found an M.S. inspired beauty made out of a crochet granny square that I must make, just as soon as I find the proper crochet thread...it´s not cute, it´s beautiful....
I like working with natural fibers, cottons, linen, wools, ect., but with living where I live in South America, resources for these are rather impossible to find. You would think that living is a tropical climate would afford a great variety of natural fibers, at least cotton and linen, but alas the people here prefer synthetic.
In some ways I suppose I understand this, the fact that ones clothing will almost instantly become a sponge for the perspiration which is inevitable, thus leaving clothes rumpled and soggy looking. With synthetic fabrics, at least, one still looks put together at the end of the day.
On occasion, I run across something that I find useful and will purchase enough to satisfy my creative urge. Though, I may have to settle with some of the fabric print options, because of the lack of variety, but I can usually imagine a completed project that is worth my efforts and that will satisfy. I thought these little cushions turned out cute enough and they will soon be gifted to some sweet someones.
Dishcloth pattern from Homespun Living Blog
I´ve almost finished another set of dishcloths that will be a gift to another dear girly, as well. I really like the color of these and may make some for myself, one day. I love making and gifting, I find such pleasure in it, so satisfying...
Let´s play a fun, little guessing game, please join in. Take a look at these picture´s below, and tell me what you think it is. Some of us do know and others of us should know, but let´s see what kind of answers we come up with. In another post I´ll show you and tell a little story...

These are beautiful, Colleen. I love them all. Thanks for thinking of me...hahahahhah.... I think that's a turtle for the needles. p.s. We have many fabric stores in Lynnwood.
Hey Ling, thanks, but too bad you won´t be getting one right now, I have nobody going that way, you´ll have to wait. By-the-way, no, not for needles.
There is always USPS/UPS/Fedex. hahaha.
I meant it's a pin cushion that has a shape of a turtle. Too many American term.
Ling, sorry, no safe courier system in this country, you´ll have to wait...(smile) And, no it is not a pin cushion in the shape of a turtle.(grin)
So, I heard Pastor Rice is coming to town. hehehehehhe...okay, okay...I will have to wait. Where is everyone else??? No more guesses? BTW Colleen, did I tell you how beautiful they are?...hehehehe Alright. Can't wait to see your next post...Love ya!!!
Hi There,
Colleen, can I mail/ship you some fabric? The idea that your wonderful creativity would be stiffeled because of lack is a shame. Let me know.
They are all beautiful and yes, there is something so sweet about the pin cushions!! I would never use those "dish cloths" to wash dishes with! I love the color of that yarn....it's wonderful!! Being as I am SLOWLY learning to knit, tell me what the name of that/those stitches are on the cloths. I really like that look.
Now as far as my guess...it looks like a pillow, but that would be to obvious. How about a chair....or an octopus?? Some sort of a pillow with arms!!!
Michaelene, how sweet of you to offer fabric. I appreciate that so much. I know that I still owe you an email and I will get to that very soon. I love your guesses, but no it is none of what you mentioned. Ling was close, but not exactly.
You will em me when you have time and I will relish reading it, as I always do.
I wondered, when you mentioned there being no reliable delivery service (or something like that) if fabric would reach you. I am happy to send fabric. Let me know which service is best. Also give me some idea of what you would like.....color, size (would pieces like swatches or something bigger be better) and type of fabric (I'm thinking you don't want things like polyester, is that right?). I could go select (wish we were selecting together, wouldn't that be fun!) a variety of smallish pieces (for pin cushions etc.) It is my treat. Can you receive it??
Let me know. XO
I know what the "guess" is...but i'll let colleen tell you...i'm interested in the little story?...michaelene...i said the same thing about using those "dish cloths" for dishes...finally colleen convinced me how great they were for a dish cloth, so i used one...(don't let her convince you)...but the other one is actually a "doillie" in my home...
colleen, i'm trying really hard not to covet the talent there (smile, frown)....
love you...and i'll talk with you soon i hope...
pin cushions are beautiful....
