THE FRUIT OF HER HANDS

You all have been waiting so patiently for this post, your such dear, sweet friends...

First, let me tell you that Ling, guessed right off that this was a turtle, but because she said it was a pin cushion she was partially wrong, and therefore her answer was incorrect. (Remember I never said it wasn´t a turtle, but that it wasn´t a pin cushion in the shape of a turtle.) In addition, I couldn´t let the game end after only the first answer, could I? (Grin)

Let me tell you about this darling stuffed turtle -

Over the years I´ve tried encouraging my dear friend Rosie, to give her hand at sewing or crafting. She always felt that she didn´t have the talent (you be the judge, I think she does), but some time after she married she broke down and bought herself a sewing machine, after all, every women needs a sewing machine, right? Then she jumped in with both feet and took a pattern making class (Wow! quite a challenging way to start). (Smile)

If I remember correctly, her first project was a skirt. I can´t remember if she ever used it (maybe she can tell us), but I do remember being so proud of her for her determination and accomplishment.

Because this was close to twenty years ago and because we´ve rarely lived in the same city, or country for that matter, I don´t remember all the details, but I think she may have done a little sewing for her darling daughter Danielle (say THAT fast, 3 times!), when she was just a little girl.

However, there hasn´t been much coming out of her craft room through the years, so you can imagine the suprise and delight I had when I was gifted with this sweet stuffed turtle, many years ago, made by her own hands. She did a fabulous job, and I was truely touched that she chose me to be the reciever of such a precious gift.

This little turtle is very dear to me, having travelled across nations and oceans, weathering many hugs and kisses by my dear children through the years, she still stands strong and sturdy, and I hope to have her for many long years to come. I plan, one day, to pass her down to my own precious daughter.

Okay, now I am convicted ... I don't have a sewing machine. I have been thinking about getting one lately though. The sad thing is my mom is a seamstres but I only learnt min amount (sew by hand) when I was home. Now, I regreted it, but it's not too late to learn. Anyhow .... Wow, Colleen, that is such a precious gift!!! Your friend, Rosie, is something else. :-) hehehehehe ... Hey Rosie, now I know why you knew what it is.

Wow... she never really sews anymore (except for christmas time when were all busy making gifts) I love this though! I have a lot of trouble sewing... not because I cant because it requires a lot of patience... I have many MANY half finished crafts in my sewing basket.

I'll tell you, I was so nervous to give it to Miss colleen, "Miss Martha Stewart herself! I'm sure you would understand miss lingy...yes I made a white skirt and a black skirt I think their called classic "align" skirts...when I was pregnant with Jonathan Wendy Keene barrowed them and never returned them....i've made a couple more attempts..Janice once walked me thru a robe for Ben, which he still owns, but its ripped that was when I had only Jonathan. one year lisa helped me make pull overs for the Greenes in Connecticut, I never got any responses :) or reactions so that was the end of that. I'm terribly sorry to say I have not made my lala something. oh wait, we walked thru a raggy anne costume that she mostly made, and finally I made a banana costume for thomas 2yrs ago...I've made curtains for my windows...and truly it is in my heart..but when it gets difficult and I get stuck I quit..and if lisa were near i'd try it. thanks for sharing that, it blessed me... again...hey why isn't lis in on this commenting stuff? blogging?

Lala, that is typical of the trade, I think all of us have unfinished projects in our sewing baskets, at some point - way down the road they may get pulled out and finished.

Rosie, If you look back several posts, I think it was my anniversay post, Dear Lisa left me a comment. Actually, she hasn´t been part of the community, because she let her 30 day trial run out, so I just sent her another invitation. I´M waiting for Heather, hello Heather, are you out there? (smile)

Ling dear, you would need pins and needles the size of large nails, the turtle is quite large to be a pin cushion. (grin)
